I’m terrible at jumping on “hot topics”. I try to not watch the news any more than I have to (which is just enough to understand the Daily Show). I also like to take plenty of time to think about all the sides of any given issue. That said…
Ward Churchill is an idiot. Perhaps a disgrace. But why did Jerry Falwell get away with the same crap? Sure, he apologized. Did he loose his job? Is he being destroyed for having an opinion? I find his comments just as, if not more, offensive than Ward’s.

Terri Shiavo died. I have kept my mouth shut about this whole thing because she is not my wife, nor my daughter, so it’s none of my business. Today I’m mad.

“The essence of civilization is that the strong have a duty to protect the weak,” Bush said. “In cases where there are serious doubts and questions, the presumption should be in favor of life.”
Tom Delay added, “I never thought I’d see the day when a U.S. judge stopped feeding a living American so that they took 14 days to die,” he said.

Have these people forgotten about the Texas Futile Care Law, the one George himself passed, the one that lets the courts remove the feeding tubes from living Americans whose prognosis is hopeless?

Have they not heard of Sun Hudson, the little boy who may have been (that seems to be up for debate, much like Mrs. Shiavo) responsive, conscious, sentient, whatever you want to call it. His mother fought to have his feeding continued, but she couldn’t afford it and Texas felt his case was hopeless. So they cut him off. He died.

Seems a little hypocritical George.

Mark Kleiman blogs about this issue, it’s worth the read. He’s a bit less angry and has done a bit more homework than I.

The next cancer benifit hosted by Dani’s Foundation is on Tuesday, April 12 at the JW Marriot in Cherry Creek-Denver, CO. This event will feature Beijo Bags, as well as a fashion show. They usually have a few fashion shows a year (Dani’s dream was to be a designer) and this one is shaping up to get some national recognition. I believe that the Susan G. Koman foundation will be represented there. My friend Sam is contributing a design for a bag and her new maternity line will be included in the show. It should be a fun night.

Interesting thought….
Today is actually the day of Christ’s resurrection. Nisan 14, the day of his crucifixion, falls on the first full moon after the solstice. That happened yesterday. So it really is Easter today, not just the Sunday after it. Happy Easter, all you Christians!
My kids really like Easter, even though they have no idea what it’s all about. I can’t bring myself to explain how some guy got nailed to a tree 2000 years ago, just like I still can’t have the conversation about slavery. I like to keep it sunny as long as I can. They dig the bunny, though. T said this morning, “Gee, the Easter bunny sure does bring a lot of sugar!” They are currently crashing from the sugar buzz. Peeps for breakfast are a really, really bad idea. But it sure is fun!

We finally had T’s 5th birthday party on Friday. We took 7 kids to Chuck E. Cheese. It went beautifully. They were all well behaved. A grandmother came up and complimented us on the behavior of our little group. That is always nice. He got great gifts from his friends, and felt very special for the night.
