Oops. The good news is that they can be replaced. It might cost you, but it is possible.
My bet is that you did the same thing with them as I do with all of my important items. Put them in such a safe spot that you’ll never find them again.
I lost my own passport but found it in a totally weird spot (between some books on my bookshelf) so hopefully you find your papers somewhere weird like that, too!
That sucks. That really, really sucks. Try looking in your carry-on bag from your last trip south of the border. That’s always where I find that sort of thing.
Serious bummer. Son’s birth certificate was right where LatteMommy suggested — in the carry on, but as soon as I finally found it there, I promptly lost it again, so I’m going to have to get new ones for both of them (yes, I can’t find Daughter’s either). One of these days I’ll post a BEFORE(and hopefully AFTER) photo of my office which will explain everything. You don’t want my advice on where to find these things, as the answer is in the bottom of a pile next to the empty fishtank. But you do have my sympathy. :)
THANK YOU for sharing. I cannot find my husband’s or my son’s. No big deal, except that I need my son’s to enroll him in school for THE FIRST TIME. Soon. Crap.
I guess you need a bigger ‘little wooden box’. I am sure those papers are safe wherever they are. I mean, it isn’t like you sold them, burned them for heat, or drew a map on the back of them that you promptly gave out to a stranger looking for Wal-Mart. Right?
Hmmm….I don’t know. I have shit like that that I have saved. When I found out I was pregnant I invested in a file storage thingy and have all important documents in there. I think I need another one!!
At least you didn’t lose the kids. Don’t worry though; you are guaranteed to find the passports…..the day AFTER you pay to replace them. Good luck, WiMSC!

I eventually found them, but what a worry.

Tuesday, 26 February, 2008 at 18:11You likely misplaced them somewhere during the last move. When I lose things it’s always in the dumbest place.
Hope you find them as it will be expensive to replace all of those.

Tuesday, 26 February, 2008 at 18:52The passports suck. Call the hospital where they were born, and replacement birth certificates can be issued.
(I got mine replaced – born in 1971, in a hospital in Chicago that BURNED DOWN WITH ALL RECORDS LOST – it’s possible, I tell you!)
