Point/Counterpoint

Direct complaints to Mr Lady in regards to Holidays, Uncategorized

Point: It’s Easter Sunday. Do you know why it’s Easter Sunday, how they pick the date? I’ll tell you.

Passover has always, like always, been observed on Nisan 14. Nisan 14 is the date when the first full moon occurs after the Spring Equinox, and it has been used to keep with the lunar connections of the old Jewish calanders.

Now, if you go read something like John 19:14 , you will note that Christ was crucified on or just before Passover, during preparations for it (there are contentions as to whether it was actually Passover or not, and I haven’t had enough coffee to get into those details.) You really don’t need to follow that link, though. Everyone knows about the Last Supper.

It all boils down to: this is the day you eat candy and make really odd looking egg salad at the end of the day. And where did you find that picture!! I need that framed in my dining room.

We actually are Orthodox and still celebrate Easter after the Passover starts. So our Easter is not today, but instead is on April 27th this year.

Just a little trivia for you!

Nice little tidbit, ya got there. For kicks, I listened to the first song, and I love the dude’s voice. Very…intoxicating. The lyrics though…errr… :)

Oh! So that’s how they do it. My mom was telling me it hasn’t been this early for decades and it won’t be this early again for a few more. Strange.

I heard at church this morning that the last time Easter was this early was 95 years ago and the next time will be like 200 years from now. Maybe that explains why it was freezing.

I could kill to be sitting topless on a beach in Florida. I was, in fact, supposed to be at a wedding in Miami today, and part of the plan for my weekend was topless beach sitting. Not to be though. Instead, I was searching, hungover, for eggs in my parents’ house, very clothed in a practical but attractive, washable wool suit. Happy Easter!

I’ve been trying to explain the whole Easter date thing to my son for a week or so. Problem is, I don’t care enough to figure it out myself!

Wait. Is it your birthday? Mine was yesterday. LOTS of chocolate for me this weekend! Excellent.

As we know, I’m not *strong* with the whole calendar counting days thing, so I’ll just have to take your word for this one. Anyone with a Star Wars Last Supper must know what she’s talking about. y’know?

It’s still too early for Easter! Well, here’s the bright side, we get the candy that much more before bikini season so we have a little extra time to burn it off.
    Love the picture!

I have been reading for a while and enjoy laughing my behind off everytime! I have delurked today to share how normal you have now made me feel! My friend and I spent over an hour last week trying to figure this exact thing out…we were very amused by ourselves in the end…google was our friend that day! Anyhow, had intended to blog about it, got wrapped up in search of tinkets for the bunny to leave small creatures in my house! Thanks for putting it into words that are much better than mine would have ever been!! BTW…I LOVE the picture!

Easter was my birthday this year too. Happy Birthday! One of your commenters mentioned that it hasn’t been this early in 95 years, sooo not true. I remember it happening on my birthday once when I was little…and I’m only 35.

BTW, found you through Busy Dad. Great blog.
