Karma is a Fickle Mistress
Once upon a time, my good friend Chris le’Cactus went and caught himself the shingles. Oh, the chuckles I had. How I laughed and laughed at his Herpes medication he was prescribed. How I giggled at the beers his doctor FORCED him to drink to relax. How I delighted in reading his wife’s side of the story, which was honestly so funny I almost peed a little.
This finger? Pointed and laughed. It was great. My abs hurt after.
Guess who’s TWO YEAR OLD has the mother-scratchin’ shingles?
Never heard of a toddler with Shingles? Neither had I. It’s actually sort of rare. They (they being the ER docs, of course; we had to get our monthly dose, you know?) were talking biopsy-esque talks when the specialist came in, checked her over, said she probably got exposed to the chicken pox somewhere along the line, grilled me when I said she hadn’t, sneered at me for a second and then said, “Well, she’ll be fine. See ya later.”
With that, we are back home. With the son-of-a-nutcracker-shingles. Which really aren’t bothering her all that much. But me? Yeah, it totally bothers me that my kid’s hand looks like it has 4th degree burns. I wonder if Chris’ doctor would prescribe ME some beer.
Whatd’ya think? Guinness in my Sippy Cup? Does kinda have a ring to it…..

Is it painful? I don’t know much about it. Hope she’s okay soon!
It actually doesn’t seem to bother her too much, provided of course I go no where NEAR her left arm.
Shingles SUCK. We had a break out of them out our elementary school and my nephew got them. SO HORRIBLE.

No way! No way! That’s awful! I’m so glad to hear she’s not finding it painful, ‘cuz it can hurt like a sonofabitch. Was she immunized against chicken pox? Because that may explain why she got shingles without actually having the chicken pox in the past.
And I thought we couldn’t have a play date because *my* kids were pestulent - turns out you one-upped me! (hee hee)

i’m still thinking it’s funny that you got out of the ER and then called to check if *my* kid’s rash was the same thing. you know, i totally thought it was sweet then. and now, a part of me wonders if you really just didn’t want to be alone in ‘my child has herpes’ land. mine’s ass rash bleeds, if it makes you feel less alone.

i am so sorry to hear she has that. that is much worse on YOU in some ways for sure. i know kids are resilient in many ways. keep her mind off things with icecream and movies. did they say how long? and i am assuming there’s quarantine.

Shingles? Um…I don’t think your 2-year old has that. She’s probably finding the weather too irritating for her (this happens when it’s too hot, you’ll see me and my son scratching painfully from our back to our legs.)

I’ve had shingles on the back of my leg. They hurt like a Mother. I couldn’t sit for a few weeks. If I wanted to rest I had to lie on my stomach. As for the Guinness…give it to the two year old. She needs it.

Cool fact about shingles or not, you had to of had chicken pox to get shingles. If she hasn’t had chicken pox it ain’t shingles and I had them once and they are excruciating, it is rare or impossible not to be in horrific pain so baby girl is blessed indeed! :) Hope it really isn’t shingles. :(

Man oh man. Shingles. You know, the only problem with that condition is the name. I mean, Shingles? It sounds like something cowboys came down with in the Old West. Sort of “Why, Sheriff Remington, I do believe you are givin’ me a case of the vapors”-esque. If they updated the name to something like “derma-bacterial irritation” or something, it wouldn’t be a big deal. You can use that name if you want.

damn!! 4th degree burns look mighty horrible… but be glad that the dr showed up when he did and said no biopsy!! my little lady had to have one and it was sooo horrible… actually she had three… one where they used a scapel, which they wanted to do near her face, and i’m not vain at all but this is my baby that you are talking about… she was 2 yrs old then… gimme a freakin’ break you assface dr… but anyway.. she also had to called a punch… it takes all 7 layers of skin and then they have to corterize it… ugh!! i couldn’t be there for that… I was in the hallway balling my eyes out ready to vomit… while my BEST DAD IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE father was holding my screaming scared to death hurting baby for them to do this shit… he kept himself pulled together until he got back to work away from all of us and called my mom VERY upset… poor guy… but if he hadn’t been there I’m not sure what i would have done… thank God for daddy’s. :)
Anyway… i hope she is already on the road to recovery. ;)
