Rate the Hate the I Could Get Used To This Edition
Once again, my nine year old cooked us dinner, and once again, he chose to make salmon. Dude, if my kid grows up to be a chef, I'm gonna be the happiest momma ever.
He made Salmon Piccata for us. It's crazy easy, and wonderful for dinner parties. You bake/grill/whatever you do to your salmon, sprinkled with just a little salt and pepper. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan you cook 2 tbsp olive oil with 6 minced garlic cloves for about 2 minutes. To that, you add 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice and 1 1/2 cups chicken broth (or white wine for grown ups) and bring it to a boil. In a small bowl, mix 2 tbsp butter with 2 tbsp flour to make a roux, and then whisk that into the sauce, stirring it constantly until it thickens, about 2 more minutes. Add 2/3 c. capers and 1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley to that and season it to taste with salt and pepper. You can serve that over pasta, but I really like to serve it over steamed broccoli. Or both. Both is nice.
But did they eat it? Well, 1of3 made it, so he loved it.
3of3 totally dug the broccoli. She likes broccoli. What can I say?
And what did 2of3 think? Well, he thought he'd ask for Kraft Dinner. The kid hates fish. But he does like boogers.

I can't wait until Amy is big enough to cook dinner.
Sounds yummy.
You are kidding me!? Your 9 yo cooked that!? You are so lucky, or I am doing everything wrong. No one, except me, would touch anything on that plate. My husband, 6 yo and 2 yo would take one look at run as fast as they could in the opposite direction. Yeah...I must be doing something very wrong.
Sounds wonderful though. I LOVE salmon and may have to try it!
I don't like salmon. But the guys do, I'm going to pass this along to Lynn.
I can't imagine Harley ever cooking as he feels we are here to serve him.
If you've got your kids cooking, you are the most genius Mom alive, and why the hell didn't I think of that yet?
Great blog you've got here sister! Sorry I haven't stumbled here sooner, it looks like this month is your blogoversary too! Congrats :)
I'll be back! Thanks for visiting Bliss in Bloom too, glad to meet you on the 'Buzz!
Here's an idea: When you are all back here in whenever you come back, 3of3 makes a meal for the lot of us, and we all learn a thing or two about not eating chicken nuggets. Deal?
I am so jealous of your kid right now.
Mine didn't cook for me until he was more like 19. At 9 I would of got a bowl of Capn Crunch. If I was lucky.
Wow.. a budding chef, a future vegetarian humanitarian, and a booger eater. Way to go Mommy. The dinner looks awesome!

Your nine-year-old must meet my eight-year-old... Hopefully, something will rub off. :)
Yummy, I'm saving that one.
