Rate the Hate the Messy Edition
I heart brownies. Possibly more than it's legal to. My husband, however, is stalking brownies. Brownies have had to take a restraining order out against him. He, who asks me for almost nothing domestically, specifically decreed that our home shall always have a chocolate substance baked and readily available to him. The guy's gotta pull rank sometimes, eh?
I share with you this recipe not because it is the world's best recipe. In fact, my very first Rate the Hate was brownies, you will recall, and that is a damn fine recipe. But there are pictures of chocolate dipped children that I must share, and a recipe for eggplant parmesean doesn't work so very well with them. Also, it's a one bowl recipe, and I am the Queen of the Messy Kitchen, so one bowl works well for me.
So, you melt 4 ounces of unsweetened chocolate over a double boiler (meaning a sauce pan on top of a pot in my white trash kitchen) and then stir 3/4 c. melted butter into that. Add 2 c. sugar, then stir in 3 eggs (I always beat them first, but I don't know that it matters, really) and 1 tsp vanilla.
(Rilah asked a good question in the comments. If you are going to use a metal or glass mixing bowl, just use that as the top of the double boiler. If not, this would be a good time to move the chocolate mix into a mixing bowl.)
Stir that up well and then slowly add 1 c. flour until well blended. You can throw in a cup of nuts if you like; I don't.
You pour all of that into a greased 13X9 ban and bake it for 30-35 minutes at 350. And then you do the MOST IMPORTANT THING; you let your helpers lick the bowl.

It's the chocolate that makes them do those great expressions, right? Because even oatmeal cookie batter doesn't make my kids do those sweet puckers.
They're adorable!
ARG, this is killing me. I LURVE brownies. But brownies are on my no good/very bad list at the moment.
But I can almost smell them by looking at the pictures. I'm tempted to lick the screen a little.
Mmm... chocolate...
Cute pics. The Princess helps me bake, but I don't get cute pics. She's one of those kids who wails the moment she's dirty. No chocolate covered hands and faces here.
my kids hate me. because, you see, i hate brownies. i hate making them. i hate baking them. i hate smelling them. they remind me of a big poop! but, don't hold that between us because, my 5 kids are, as i write this, on a plane to your house...they want some brownies and i'm a really crappy mom. but...i make the meanest banana bread around...without chocolate chips because, quite frankly, chocolate chips do not belong in banana bread!
xo
I want to stick my head in that bowl...stat!
Wait... why doesn't your brownie recipe call for a Duncan Hines box like mine????
Lovin' the messy kid shots!
That's like, the easiest brownie recipe I've ever heard of. For some reason, I thought they were really complicated if they weren't out of the box.
(I'm rooting for the Steelers for you right now!)
i'm with ms shakespeare. how does one actually find the gumption to make brownies that are not related to the crocker or hynes family? and blonde question: when does one move the ingredients from the double boiler into the bowl?
Oh my, I think I heart you for that recipe! Do we have to share the bowl with our kids though?
From scratch brownies are pure love
This is fact
I am pure love
I am from scratch
Reminds me of song lyrics
Words ring true
Melodies pouring out love
They are from scratch
We are like brownies and songs
Sweet and tantalizing
The taste is heard
We are from scratch
A poem for you. ;)
No, I am not high. Geez.
I really need to make me some brownies, with nuts!
YOu have been added to the Magnificent Mamas Blogroll on my blog now.
Brownies....mmmmmmm. Oh wait, there was a post to go with those photos? I really should have read it rather than drooling everywhere.
Mmmmm, brownies....
I have a very similar recipe that is EVEN EASIER!!!
Put the chopped choc and butter in a saucepan over low heat till it melts, turn off heat, add sugar, mix, add eggs and vanilla, mix, add flour (I use tapioca makes it much MUCH better!) and nuts, mix, and then bake in a pan...
The recipe is called 'Better than sex brownies' and I agree.
Don't tell my husband that though!
Yummy, now there's something I've never tried making!! The kids look like they're really enjoying themselves. LOL!
Yummy!
I make peppermint brownies and they fly off!
Add a tsp (ish) of peppermint extract to the brownie mix and then I crush up peppermints and add them to the batter and then to the top once they come out of the oven. They're painfully good. That's what princess' preschool teacher and director got this year. They didn't make it out of the school ;-) LOL
There is very little in life a good brownie cannot cure.
I usually make mine with marshmallow topping and then frost them, but truly? It doesn't matter...
Bake a brownie and I will come!
(Um. Just realized that could be taken a couple of ways. I'll leave it though. It's true enough. Hee.)
You are absolutely right. Nuts do not belong in brownies.
OMG, my computer is about to malfunction from drooling on it!
