Mr Lady
Last night, after almost a whole week of cooking nothing resembling decent food (hey, momma gets Spring Break too, right?) I was determined to actually make dinner.

Oooh yummy, I love the sound of that. Pity my DH wouldn't eat it though, he doesn't do cooked fruit!! Damn fuss pot!

Oh my, I'm smack dab in the middle of my own obsession with pears. I love cheddar triscuits with Anjou pears (don't care for Bartlett), and that is often my breakfast on weekdays. You need to try my pear crostini thingee. It's really crusty (almost like a crouton) sliced french baguette, olive oil, Brie Cheese, and warm pear (you can put a leaf of arugula on if you are into that sort of thing). Oh gosh, it makes me hungry just thinking about it! Mmm mmmm goooood!
mmmmmm. pears.

I love pears, too. But I'm the only one in the house that does, so I can only buy them in small quantities.
I may try this though. Maybe I can change their minds?!

You're little *note at the end of this post cracked me up because, well, I was wondering why the hell you knew so much about pears.
You read alot of Snapple caps, don't you?

You are SO right. The spice rack is a very underrated and under-utilized tool in the single guy arsenal. When I was single, I didn't drive a nice car, couldn't dress for crap and lived in a studio apt. But I had saffron strands. There's a reason you pay a pretty penny for them.

I just discovered your blog, and I'm sorry to say that I don't particularly like pears. I do, however, LOVE the name of this blog, and so it's great to visit you here, nonetheless!

First of all, WHERE is the food porn photo of full-frontal sauced-pear fabulosity? I have come to expect no less from you, my dear. Perhaps in a p.s. posted tomorrow?
Second, I ADORE pears too (you see, yet another reason I adore YOU). The red pears in the early fall are my favorite, although I don't know nearly as much about pear seasons as you do, so there may be others I would love. Poaching pears in white wine, etc, and then serving them with scoops of ricotta cream (somewhat like canoli filling) and drizzled with good dark chocolate is another heavenly dessert.
Third, I have several casserole recipes you might want. For starters, how about a corn pudding that's a great side dish, and a humble tuna noodle that will certainly make you need to grow your kids' hair out into mullets and change your name to something with Rae in the middle--but that tastes great. I'm all about the helpfulness...

That sounds delicious... I may have to try that very soon.

I gotta try this as I loves pears. Sounds decadent, for pears, any way.
I've got the easiest tuna casserole recipe if you really need one!

Sounds great, but too many steps for me. I'm a lazy cook. If I can't cook prepare and cook it quickly--it doesn't get made. I love lasagna, but it's too messy/time-consuming for my tastes, so, I only make it once or twice a year.
Can't help you with casseroles. Suggest that you try www.allrecipes.com for casseroles recipes.

When I travel, I try to mooch nights at friend's homes so I don't have to pay for a hotel. I like to repay in terms of cooking, when allowed.
I made this for a friend . . .
take a large can of the best peach halves in syrup you can find. Drain all the syrup into a sauce pan and bring to a boil . . . watch it . . . when it starts to brown (turn to caramel) add in 1/2 - 1 cup whipping cream (the stuff in the little milk carton, not the stuff you spray from a can) and drop the heat to let it turn a lovely caramel color . . . add in the peaches and warm them through . . . serve with homemade or store bought gingerbread.

Funny - I was just thinking today that it had been a while since you last posted a "Rate the Hate" or "Super Saturday Supper". You came back with a vengeance, though. Those pears sound amazing. And bonus points for the presentation tips. Very Martha...with a whiskey chaser.

Sounds good! Oh hey! I have a recipe for you that's easy.
You'll need a can of precooked chicken (like the tuna, but it's chicken), shredded cheddar cheese, crescent rolls, and cream of chicken soup...you can add mushrooms too if you like (cooked)). Anyways, unroll the crescent rolls, stuff them with chicken and cheese. Put them in the glass baking dish. Fix the cream of chicken soup like it says on the can. Pour over the chicken crescent rolls. Top with cheese. Put in the over for the temp and time it says on the back of the crescent rolls.
And, that's it.
You can even tell everyone you made it from scratch if you hide all the cans :)

Mmmm Pears. Mmmm basmati Rice. mmmm velveeta.
I can't tell you how to make a casserole. I just always thought it was a big dish of a conglobulation of ingredients that somehow tasted great all stuck together the way they are.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. It meant alot, especially since you were the one to convince me not to give up blogging because of it. I still owe you.

i could have sworn i wrote you a comment but maybe it didn't go through and i got tired of waiting for my computer to make a decision. so sorry if i sound redundant!
that sounds real good even though i'm not big on cooking fruit. but i might actually try it since i love pears.
would love to see a photo of it.
i gather you like to cook, not too many people know of Anise seeds! v. impressive. that and saffron in your spice rack is pretty cool.
(ranch chicken recipe: marinate chicken in ranch dressing, toss into casserole dish, top with diced tomatoes, cheese, add a touch of sour cream if you like and bake.) comes out quite good.
take care.
OK--this is awesome! We have a pile of pears (and apples and oranges--an Easter gift I guess) my mom just sent! I love pears, but I was thinking there is no way we would get through two dozen!!! You have solved my dilemma!
