Say It Ain't So

Call it a cop-out post, call it sacrilege, call it the most excruciatingly off-key mess you've ever heard, call it what you will. This is my life; welcome to it.  This is what makes me laugh until I pee.

(I dubbed the actual song very quietly into the background for those of you who aren't well-versed in the greatness that is Weezer.  You should work on that.  Best band ever, not kidding.  My 8 year old even knows this much is true.)

Say It Ain't So from Mr Lady on Vimeo.

Maybe he'll be a bassist or something.

AWWWWWWW.
So sweet.

You want him to be a dog?

Oh. Not Basset.

I could totally eat him with a spoon. The little headbangs nearly made me wet my pants.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKelley

I WISH my 13-yr old listened to Weezer ... that'd be fucking cool. Everything off of the Blue Album = junior high + some high school for me. LOVE IT.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaggie Garcia

omg! Dude. that's AWESOME!! love it.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercolleen

Umm, you're going to have to send him to me for "training" in Austin, then Seattle. I'll draw up a curriculum . . .

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeslie Dillinger

LOL

We so need to get our boys together on rockband!!!!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGnilleps

*gapes* Dude. That is like... the coolest thing I've ever seen. Hands down. *plays again* HA! Look at his head bob on beat. Seriously. Holy crap. Going to die of the cute. It burns us.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

Nodding the instrumental parts are my particular favourite bits. Don't want to move too much though, EMOs do not expend unnecessary calories. Should the Urban Dictionary be updated?

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSingleParentDad

I hope my boys are this cool.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMaria

See - we do our best. We infuse them with the good stuff and just hope they'll grow up singing the right songs.

"Son? You've made it through to Hollywood!"

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterck

Oh that's priceles...How on earth did you manage to catch that on video...my son would have felt me breathing and totally would have shut me down!!

That is just too...much!!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDawn

I'm so impressed you caught that on video! That's awesome.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

Yes!!!!! I love that he kept singing.

This has purely got to be coincidental, but my cat started yowling from the other room as I was listening to him sing.

No lie.

But it could be because he sees another cat outside. Dunno.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Missie

So cute, OMG. I hope my kids are that cool!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSt

Cool! I have a kiddo who is like this with Green Day.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJo

Awesome! You're raising him right! I can't wait for my baby to sing along with Social Distortion (they are our best band ever.) I'll just cry... Did you cry?

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKelly

Someday your kids will say 'I can't believe I know ALL the words to 'your' music.' Trust.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterpam

o.m.g...that is funny. I can totally remember being a teenager and blasting Weezer for all my teen angst...they rawkd!! (and yes, I still blast them from time to time...)

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKel

Holy shit. How did you pull off getting all that on video w/ out him knowing it?! Mine worships Robert Plant and will scream 'Turn the Led Up' from the backseat of the car.

Last week I turned it down and he yelled, "Mom. If it's too loud, you're too old!"

Dude, he's five.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmo

Okay, that has to be one of the sweetest things I've ever seen.

He.
Is.
Adorable!!!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterraino

He is too cool!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterpgoodness

He totally sings in tune. Mostly. Awesome.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMidLifeMama

That. Is. Fantastic!!!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

i LOVE that song! we totally kill it on Rock Band!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternichole

Dude, he went OFF during the bridge! So much intensity....I thought he might pop a blood vessel or something! It makes you wonder how they can just keep getting up there and giving it there all day in day out, ya know? :)

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermatt

You've got a really cool kid. But I'm sure you already know that.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I love it. Exactly the kind of thing that later on in his teen years you bust out to show his girlfriend when he's being especially difficult.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWill

Clueless about what kids are listening too. Harley doesn't listen to much.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterOne Mom's Opinion

hahaha! Did he know you were filming him? I love the headbanging interludes!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJill

That was awesome! I love that song! He's got excellent musical taste, good job mom and dad. :)

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenny

AHAHAHAHA... so cute!

I myself have warped my babygirl into a Foo Fightin', Al Green loving musical junkie. But she still loves the Jo Bros. I tried...

At least I can rest assured that some of my brainwashing worked.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLynette

Rock on lil' man....I'm with the rest. The little head bangs kill me.

Cool scene you got going on over there lady... :-)

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLee of MWOB

best post of the day so far.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

This is awesome. I hope my kids (when I decide to have them) will be that cool.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRaychelle

And if he really gets into them, you can tell him all about the lead singer's vow of celibacy, right?

Is this akin to our parents being so swept over by the coolness of us singing to Zepplin? Because as much as this rocked and made me wanna buy him some black lipstick (I know 3 of 3 used up your cache), I now feel OLD, realizing that song came out before ANY of your kids were born.

(also made me wanna video Isobel singing along to System of a Down. Hmm.)

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZoeyjane

God, I think I just DID pee a little.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKori

That is about the most awesome (and cutest) thing I've ever seen!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMama Goose

so you know The Phi is a big Weezer fan. Maybe our kids can get together one summer and follow a Weezer tour. And of course we would have to go too. You know to chaperon and everything.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterelissa

Oh great, the 8 year old is cooler than me.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterXbox4NappyRash

I peed a little with the headbangs!

Seriously, I feel you. My Meg puts in her ear buds, and we can hear her in the next room, with. the. door. closed. And the wall between her room and the living room is insulated. Whatever.

What I'm trying to say is: Awesome!

Did he know you were filming? Mine would have tried to eat me if she caught me. You're brave. So very brave. If he gets too nasty, you can direct his school to your website.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

8 year olds are the best.

Except when they whine. And talk back. And don't put their shit away.

Oh, wait. That's my husband.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZak

beautiful baby... i just want to skwish (hug) him but that's not allowed at that age, is it?

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeslie

That's just like my daugter and Beyonce'. She's quick to tell you "To the left, to the left!"

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKeyona

SWEETNESS.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMomBabe

Just adorable... and your 8 yo and my 8 yo should sooooo hang (well, we could let them do whatever while we hang...)

You're a Troublemaker.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren MEG

ohmygah!!! i love it! i sang along to that!

weezer was huge in high school. 95/96. my parents went to dinner and they took my little nephew with them. i stayed home to do homework. i had weezer on in the living room, loud. i was laying on the floor BELTING IT OUT, and i opened my eyes and my parents were staring at me with this shocked look on their face. baby nephew was holding his ears.

you take your car to work, i'll take my board, and when you're out of fuel, i'm still afloat.

oh man. must have weezer now. just their first album.

Your son has great taste in music :) That was the cutest video, he couldn't have performed the song better...and the head banging....he totally got his awsomeness from his mother :) Enjoy your rockin' memory!

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersuper mama

That is awesome.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZandor

Can I keep him in a little wagon and pull him around behind me?

HE IS THE EPITOME OF AWESOME.

This is my favorite Weezer song, by the way. Your kid FTW.
