I'm Pretty Sure I Have $1 Under My Couch Cushions.

I'm going to do something I don't think I've ever done before, and ask you all for money.   I'm going to ask everyone who reads this blog this weekend to click the image below and give just $1 to Madeline Spohr's fund to help her family cover the costs of the funeral and suppliment some income for them until they can return to work. Thank you all.

I donated this morning. And I gave earlier this week to Maddie's March of Dimes account. So sad. But everyone can afford to give $1. It will be immeasurably helpful to Heather and Mike. They shouldn't have to worry about money at a time like this. I wish there was more I could do for them. Thanks for putting this on your blog.

i can't wait to see what happens. i'll donate a dollar this weekend.

I hope they are able to take even the smallest comfort in knowing how many people their daughter's life has touched.

I'm sure when the shock wears down and they are back to whatever normal their lives will take, they will be comforted by this amazing blog community. I am.

I looked in my Paypal account and found $0.72. Pathetic, but I sent it.

Done and done. Do you know where I can get the code to put that button on my blog too?

April 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJill

Meghan has the code up for the button.

I mean, the code is there. Gah, grief addled brain.

I've been trying at various times today to click on the link, but it seems like the site's still overloaded. Does anyone have a direct link they could send me, or even a snail mail address I could send a check to?

Thanks, and thanks Mr. Lady for telling us about the fund.

Since my husband got laid off two weeks ago, I have said more times to count: but we are lucky -- we are all healthy. There has never been a better time for me to put my money where my mouth is.

Well, I hugged my brat a little tighter and donated MORE than $1. Because I could. Thanks for letting everyone know.

We're skipping dinner out tomorrow night in order to donate for this poor family. I cannot imagine...thank God.

Well there's a first time for everything (the asking for money thing) and I can't imagine a more necessary and worthwhile time to do it. I'm there.

I finally was able to get through on both the March of Dimes link and the for Maddie link. I can't imagine what they're going through. My kids don't understand why I keep hugging them so tightly.

This is such a tragedy, and you are amazing for doing your part for them! Donating is the least I can do!

April 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbrittany

done.

April 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterpatty

I donated yesterday. I figured I could do without a Starbucks mocha for a day. Small price to pay for my children.

I hope the Spohr family knows how much we all are saddened, whether we knew them or not. They are in my prayers.

Your friends' Heather and Mike have not been far from my thoughts for the past few days.
Ironically, my bother turned me onto your blog about two weeks after my husband and I lost our son in July of last year. You will never know how much your blog helped me (okay, that and a TON of rum!). I can remember feeling so numb and yet trying so hard to be and to do what everyone"expected" me to do when our son passed away. And I LOVED logging onto your blog at insane hours of the morning. I got so tired of saying the "right" things to everyone. Tired of being asked if I was okay. Inside I was screaming..."NO! I'm not okay! What the hell could possibly be okay right now?!"...ANd there YOU were. Saying it how it was and I loved it. And I trully found confort in your stories! The point to all of this? I wish for your friends to be "allowed" and to "allow" themselves to deal with the loss of their beautiful Maddie however they see fit! They are blessed with amazing freinds and family! I hope they know that Maddie's life has touched so many and has reached so far beyond what I am sure they ever imagined. My husband and I grieve for them and with them. I only wish we could have donated more. We wish your friends peace and comfort!
And to you, Goddess of the whiskey -filled sippy cup? Thank you for making me smile when I couldn't quite get there on my own!

Happily donated a few dollars from my Paypal.

This is truly tragic. I donated, but wish I could have given more. :(

Thank you for making the donation so easy. For the hardest of occasions.
Thank you.

I've heard a lot about Maddie on various blogs this past week, though I never read anything about her before. It's heartbreaking.

Finally pulled out my wallet because $1 is just so darned reasonable. I second Polly in thanking you for making the donation so easy.
